Do you think you could help?
We are a volunteer run, non-profit community cinema in New Earswick, but we have big ideas! In the few short years we have existed we have screened over 30 incredible films and welcomed almost 2000 people through our doors. We have had Speed Friending and fancy dress events, seasons of kid’s films, we’ve raised awareness on social issues like Dementia and Autism, we have even had a Q and A session with a BAFTA award winning actor. All this has come from a small group of enthusiastic volunteers committed to bringing people together through the medium of film. Do you think you could help?
Why volunteer?
There’s a long list of reasons why volunteering is a great thing to do, and it’s different for everyone. Here are a few to consider-
- To give something back to your community.
- Be part of the ever expanding community film movement in the UK.
- Remind yourself that you have incredible value and knowledge to share.
- Spend quality time away from a busy work schedule.
- Meet new and interesting people.
- Learn new skills and further your interests.
- For the fun of it! (We are a friendly group and there is a bar on film night!)
Who do we need?
Everyone is welcome at Film at the Folk Hall, that doesn’t just include our audience! We could always use an extra pair of hands. If you have knowledge in fundraising or skills in marketing then we would love to hear from you, but if you would just like to come along and welcome people into the venue on film night or assist us with ever increasing admin then great, we could always use an extra pair of hands. Maybe you have ideas of how you can help us improve even further?!
As well as coming along to enjoy our events for free on film night, we can offer you a great chance to meet like minded people and engage a wonderful audience in a beautiful building with a very community feel to it. We want volunteers to enjoy themselves as much as the audience!

What is the commitment?
Come and try us out. The idea is to enjoy the experience first of all. The project is run by volunteers so all that is required is enthusiasm and ideas. The hours you can commit to are flexible and entirely dependant on your availability and willingness to see the project through, month by month.
Contact us by dropping in, phoning up or using our email contacts if you’d like any more information. We look forward to hearing from you!
