On the 11th day of Halloween…
‘The Descent’ (2005)
13 years on from its release, this tale of a group of female spelunkers who become trapped underground and hunted through an undiscovered cave network remains the scariest, goriest, hardest-hitting, most overall satisfying horror film of the 21st Century.
Every time I watch it, I remain gripped from the start, in love with it’s characters, in awe at its execution, and floored by its powerful, downbeat ending. In short: I love ‘The Descent’ – it’s a masterpiece of darkness that belongs with the very finest the genre had ever produced.
Do yourself a favour, and do it justice – watch it on the biggest TV, with the best sound system, and (particularly important) in the darkest room you can find. Happy Halloween.
